Day Program for Teens at Risk
Karen Gallant and Alice Sims taught a series of 6 classes. Projects included ceramic masks, small books, and sculpture with air dried clay and collage. This project was made possible by Art for the People and by a matching grant from the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County. 

GLENMONT MIDDLE SCHOOL
Lindsey Hobbs and Alice Sims taught teens at risk at this alternative school, trying different media and making and decorating a large felt wall hanging. Made possible by Art For The People. |
THE NEW SCHOOL
The New School at the McKenny Hills Centers
Silver Spring, Maryland
Alice Sims and Stephanie Ney again worked with "at risk" high school students, this time to create a mural based on Australian Aboriginal design. Seven teens participated. Funding was from The Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County and AFTP.  |
The McKenney Learning Center, Phoenix Program at the New School
AFTP ran workshops for teens with substance abuse problems called "Clay, The Ancient Medium." Artists Marilyn Banner and Stephanie Ney, over the course of four sessions, introduced the basics of working with clay, how to build pinch pots, clay masks, animal sculpture and tile design. This project was sponsored by a grant from the Washington Post. |
